About

The mission of both the Newport News Public Digital Library and the Martha Woodroof Hiden Virginiana Room Collection is to collect, organize, preserve, and provide access to items of historical significance to the City of Newport News. By digitally preserving important and rare artifacts, we are able to provide access to the widest possible audience.

The Martha Woodroof Hiden Memorial Virginiana Room contains over 4300 volumes specializing in Virginia genealogy and history. We have books, manuscripts, maps, periodicals, photographs, and microfilm on the history of Newport News and Virginia.

The Historic Postcards of Newport News collection consists of 71 post cards with images of the historic City of Newport News. Scenes include streets, aerial views of Newport News, hotels, businesses, churches, and the ship yard and piers. If the reserve side of the postcard was written on, the image is included along with the front side image.
